Update December 6, 2007

We had a VERY successful videoconference today from Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii back to Oklahoma schools! Our webcast feed was not functional until 22 minutes into our 1 hour and 30 minute videoconference and webcast, but our "live" videoconference connection to schools worked great the entire conference. As a result of the problems with the reflected web stream, some of the students and teachers planning to attend via the web stream were not able to do so. That problem has been identified and fixed, so we anticipate an uninterrupted webcast on December 7th at 4 pm central (noon in Hawaii) for the dedication of the USS Oklahoma Memorial. The link to connect to that webstream remains the same and on the homepage of the Oklahoma World War II Voices project wiki:

The interactive videoconference with students in Oklahoma schools went VERY well overall, and was archived in its entireity for download and viewing. Although our videoconference/webcast event was separated into two forty-five minute segments, the webcast was initially archived as a complete 90 minute video. We are in the process of splitting this video into two segments and making both available to anyone interested in these videos. Currently the following is available:

Part 1: December 6, 2007 Videoconference from Pearl Harbor (47 minutes, 28 seconds - 99.5 MB)

Part 2 of this video is being edited and will be posted soon!

Update December 2, 2007

Thanks to all the Oklahoma educators who have applied so far to participate in our live videoconferencing events from Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 6 and 7, 2007! As of December 2, 2007, we have received:

  • 64 requests to participate via webcast from Oklahoma schools and 1 Wisconsin (in some cases, more than one classroom in a school district are planning to participate)
  • 10 requests to participate via a live, H.323 (IP) videoconferencing connection from Oklahoma Schools.

The total number of estimated student and teacher participants (per submitted webform applications) as of December 2, 2007, is 8,869 people. We are enthused to see so much interest in this digital learning project!

If your school has not yet applied to participate but is interested in doing so, please complete the online registration form as soon as possible.

As students and teachers form questions you would like to see addressed during our December 6 or 7 videoconferences, please post those to the project blog site. Additionally, questions can be posted to the discussion forum section of this wiki site. Questions posted in the discussion forum may be answered by others in addition to the participants in the Dec 6 and 7 videoconferences.

Schools which have applied to participate via a H.323 videoconference should:
  1. Receive an email by December 3, 2007, from Wesley Fryer confirming submited/received IP address information.
  2. Schedule a videoconference test call with Lance Ford of Howe Public Schools on Dec 3 or 4. Lance's test IP address is 156.110.227.81. Phone is 918-658-3666.
